Having a special night coming up and looking to splurge a little for a seafood lover? Then Truluck’s is the place to do it just be prepared for $$$! Okay, I don’t want to scare you but if you’re looking for an indulgent seafood experience I highly recommend at least trying it once. My husband and I decided to spend our date night here after having driven by this La Jolla location many times and being curious about it. It did not disappoint!

First off, the STONE CRABS!!! If you have never had or heard of stone crabs they are a unique and sustainable food because only one claw per crab is harvested so that they can go about living their happy days and grow another one by the time they’re ready for the next harvest. So you don’t have to feel too guilty eating these!

For an appetizer, we opted for the large claw size on the menu and they come chilled with a side of remoulade sauce for dipping. Upon first bite these are by far one of the tastiest and meatiest crab claws you will ever eat. They are light in flavor and naturally sweet while the remoulade and lemon juice gives it a nice extra zing of flavor. For those of you who are not too good at tackling shells like me, these come pre-cracked and are super easy to eat!

For the main course we ordered the Alaskan King Crab Legs and Australian Lobster Tail. Both were very delicious and again super easy to eat and very meaty like the crab claws. They both came with their signature garlic butter for dipping. Mind you these crab legs were HUGE! The taste was very fresh with a great texture, nothing compared to those endless crab legs you get at a Vegas buffet.

The lobster had a buttery taste, firmer meat, and natural sweetness compared to their Maine lobster cousin. These large lobsters are a bit different as they don’t have any claws and are also known as Spiny or Rock lobsters which resemble a bug like appearance.

For sides we went with our waiter’s recommendations of Umami Brussel Sprouts and Hash Browns. Both were okay just average nothing too special. However, I must say their complimentary Parmesan garlic rolls (sorry no pics we ate them too fast) were WAY BETTER! We were very hungry that night so we kept devouring plate after plate of these rolls. They’re baked to order and come piping hot with a side of butter. The rolls are sweet, soft, and delicate while the sprinkle of fresh Parmesan and melted butter give it that nice balance of sweet and salty. I would come back just for these rolls!

Truluck’s is a chain restaurant so the next time you come across one in your area, give this place a go and enjoy an unforgettable seafood experience!
